Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 1, 2025

Overview

HourlyTaxCalculator.com ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how long we retain it, and your rights with respect to your data. By using this site, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

The Most Important Thing: Calculator Inputs Are Never Transmitted

When you use any calculator on HourlyTaxCalculator.com — whether it's the hourly wage calculator, the tip tax calculator, the overtime calculator, or the self-employment tax calculator — every calculation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your hourly wage, filing status, number of dependents, and any other inputs you enter are never sent to our web servers. They exist only in your browser's memory for the duration of your session and are discarded when you navigate away or close the tab.

This is not a legal technicality — it is the actual architecture. We chose client-side-only calculations specifically so that sensitive financial information never crosses the network.

What We Do Collect

Analytics Data (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This service collects:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Approximate geographic location (country and region level — not precise location)
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browser type
  • Referring website or search engine that brought you to our site
  • General session information (new vs. returning visitor, session duration)

This data is aggregated and anonymized. Google Analytics does not give us access to individually identifiable information about you, and we do not attempt to de-anonymize it. The data is used solely to understand which pages are most useful, how people navigate the site, and what types of calculators are most commonly accessed.

IP addresses are anonymized before being stored by Google Analytics. We have enabled IP anonymization in our GA4 configuration.

Advertising Cookies (Google AdSense)

We display advertisements through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve advertisements that are relevant to your interests based on your browsing history across websites. These cookies are set by Google, not directly by HourlyTaxCalculator.com.

To opt out of personalized advertising, visit google.com/settings/ads or use the NAI opt-out tool. You can also disable interest-based ads through your browser's privacy settings.

For more information about how Google uses data when you use our site, see Google's partner site policy.

Contact Form / Email

If you contact us via email, we retain your email address and message content for the purpose of responding to your inquiry. We do not add contact inquiries to any marketing list or share them with third parties.

Cookies

Our site uses the following categories of cookies:

  • Analytics cookies — Set by Google Analytics to track site usage patterns (anonymized)
  • Advertising cookies — Set by Google AdSense to serve and measure advertising

We do not use cookies for authentication, personalization, or any purpose beyond analytics and advertising. You can disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not affect calculator functionality — since calculations run entirely in JavaScript without cookies.

Data Retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months in our GA4 property before automatic deletion. Email correspondence is retained for up to 24 months. We do not retain calculator input data — none is transmitted or stored.

Third-Party Links

Our site includes links to external resources including the IRS website (irs.gov) and other tax references. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any external site you visit.

Children's Privacy

HourlyTaxCalculator.com is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your Rights (CCPA / GDPR)

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. Since we do not store calculation inputs, the primary data we hold is analytics data (which is aggregated and anonymized) and any email correspondence. To exercise your rights, contact us at our contact page.

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). European Union residents may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We are committed to honoring these rights to the extent applicable.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any revisions. Continued use of the site after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
