Purpose and Scope
HourlyTaxCalculator.com provides online federal income tax estimation tools for informational and educational purposes only. This Disclaimer governs your use of all calculators, tables, articles, and other content on this website. By using this site, you acknowledge and agree to the terms set forth below.
Not Professional Tax Advice
The results produced by our calculators are estimates — not professional tax advice, legal advice, or financial advice. HourlyTaxCalculator.com is not a registered tax preparer, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), enrolled agent, or tax attorney. No professional-client relationship is created by your use of this site.
Tax law is complex, frequently changes, and applies differently depending on individual circumstances. What applies to one person may not apply to another. For advice specific to your situation — including your actual tax liability, optimal withholding settings, deduction eligibility, or tax planning strategies — consult a qualified tax professional.
Estimate vs. Actual Tax Liability
Our calculators use the 2025 federal tax brackets, the correct 2025 IRS standard deductions ($15,750 single / $31,500 married filing jointly / $23,625 head of household), and current FICA rates. Even with accurate inputs, our results will differ from your actual tax liability because we do not account for:
- State and local income taxes — which vary significantly by state and city
- Pre-tax payroll deductions — 401(k), 403(b), traditional IRA, HSA, FSA, and employer health insurance premiums all reduce your taxable income below your gross wages
- Post-tax deductions — Roth 401(k) contributions, union dues, garnishments
- Itemized deductions — mortgage interest, charitable contributions, state taxes (up to $10,000 SALT cap), and other itemized deductions that may exceed the standard deduction for some taxpayers
- Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
- Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT) — the 3.8% surtax on investment income for high earners
- Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other refundable credits beyond the Child Tax Credit
- Self-employment health insurance deductions — beyond what our SE calculator models
- Multiple jobs on the same return — interaction effects between multiple income sources
- Social Security benefits, unemployment compensation, pension income — these are taxed differently than wages
- Local city or county income taxes — levied by some municipalities independent of state taxes
Tax Year Applicability
This calculator covers the 2025 federal tax year (income earned in 2025, tax returns filed in spring 2026). Tax brackets and standard deductions change each year due to inflation adjustments. Do not use 2025 figures for prior-year tax calculations or for the 2026 tax year without verifying updated IRS figures.
Withholding vs. Tax Liability
Our calculators estimate your annual tax liability — the total federal tax you owe for the year. This differs from withholding, which is the amount your employer deducts from each paycheck during the year. The IRS Publication 15-T payroll withholding method (which employers use) produces different per-paycheck withholding amounts than our annual estimate divided by pay periods. Our tool is useful for planning purposes, not for setting precise withholding. Use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator at irs.gov for withholding decisions.

Accuracy and Updates
We make reasonable efforts to ensure our calculators reflect current IRS-published figures. However, tax law can change mid-year, the IRS may issue corrections, and our update process may lag behind new announcements. We do not warrant that our calculator results are error-free or that they will match results from other tools, your employer's payroll system, or the IRS's own calculators. If you believe you have found an error, please contact us.
