What to Include When Reporting a Calculation Error

If you believe a calculator is producing an incorrect result, the more detail you provide, the faster we can diagnose and fix it. Please include:

  • The specific page URL (e.g., hourlytaxcalculator.com/hourly-wage-tax-calculator.html)
  • The exact inputs you used: hourly rate, hours per week, filing status, number of dependents
  • The result you received from our calculator
  • The result you expected, and the source you're using to verify (IRS publication number, your actual pay stub, another tool, etc.)

Please note: differences between our calculator and your actual paycheck are often explained by pre-tax deductions (401k, health insurance, HSA) or state/local taxes that our federal-only calculator doesn't include. We explain this fully on our How Calculations Work page.

Frequently Asked Questions Before You Email

Why doesn't your result match my actual paycheck?

Our calculator covers federal taxes only: federal income tax, Social Security (6.2%), and Medicare (1.45%). Your actual paycheck deductions typically also include state income tax (if applicable), any city or local income tax, health insurance premiums, 401(k) or 403(b) contributions, HSA or FSA deductions, and possibly union dues or other employer-specific deductions. All of those reduce your take-home further.

Why are your standard deduction numbers different from other calculators?

We use the correct 2025 IRS figures: $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married filing jointly. Many other calculators still display 2024 amounts ($14,600 and $29,200) or use projected estimates. Our figures are sourced directly from IRS Rev. Proc. 2024-40.

Do you cover state income taxes?

Currently we cover federal taxes and provide specific calculators for five no-income-tax states: Texas, Florida, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming. We are expanding state coverage over time.

Can I use your calculator for my employees?

Our tool provides estimates suitable for planning purposes. For official payroll withholding, employers should use IRS Publication 15-T and their payroll software, which implements the exact withholding tables rather than the annual bracket-estimate method we use.

Is this calculator right for self-employed people?

Yes — we have a dedicated self-employment tax calculator that handles the 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of net income, the SE tax deduction, federal income tax on adjusted income, and a quarterly estimated payment figure.

Do you have an API or embeddable widget?

Not currently. If you're interested in licensing or embedding our calculator for your website, contact us at the email above.
